Course Description:
Students will design and print their own t-shirt during this fun-filled three-hour session with one of Megalo’s experienced printmakers. This outreach program will aim to introduce students to the fast and fabulous medium of screenprinting. Using hand cut stencils students will create their own unique fabric prints on t-shirts, bags and fabrics.
Course Outline:
Students will
- be shown examples of screenprints from the Megalo archive to inspire and talk through the process and various techniques
- design and cut out one or two stencils using their own imagery and ideas
- be guided through printing their stencil onto t-shirts/fabric using coloured inks
- dry and heat set their t-shirt ready to wear!
Plate, Press, Print (3 hour - etching workshop)

Course Description:
This 3-hour etching workshop with one of Megalo’s experienced printmakers, will introduce students to the wonderful world of intaglio printing. Students will explore various etching techniques using drawings and sketches developed by students prior to workshop. The students will learn how etch a plate, ink up, print and dry the prints during the workshop.

- be shown examples of intaglio prints from the Megalo archive to inspire and explain the various print processes used
- draw and sketch ideas for their etching plate
- draw their image onto their plate using a wide range of tools
- be guided through the process of acid etching
- print their plates using coloured inks and the Megalo portable press
Linocut printing (3 hour - linocut workshop)

Course Description:
This 3-hour linocut workshop with one of Megalo’s experienced printmakers, will introduce students to the wonderful world of relief printing. From early book illustrations to contemporary works of art, relief prints have been a beautiful and powerful means of communication and artistic expression. Students will use drawings and sketches to translate an image to the lino block. The workshop will cover a variety of cutting methods and they will have an opportunity to use the Megalo portable press.

Students will
- be shown examples of lino and woodlock prints from the Megalo archive to inspire and explain the various print processes used
- draw and sketch ideas for their lino blocks
- carve their lino block using a wide range of tools
- then spend the afternoon printing their blocks using coloured inks and experimenting with different inking techniques

They will have an opportunity to use our fully equipped printmaking studios and gain experience of printing on our large fabric table.

- design and expose photographic stencils to screen using their own imagery and drawings
- be guided through washing out and printing their stencil onto t-shirts/fabric using coloured inks
- also have the opportunity to cut a stencil to add another colour to their design,
- dry and heat set their t-shirt ready to wear!
Poster Prints (5 hr / 1 day - intro to screenprinting on paper)

Students will design and print their own poster during this fun-filled day-long session with one of Megalo’s experienced printmakers. This program will aim to introduce students to the fast and fabulous medium of screenprinting. Using hand cut and photographic stencil processes, students will create their own multi-coloured poster print. They will have an opportunity to use our fully equipped printmaking studios and gain experience of printing in our paper print studio.
