JENNY KITCHENER, Seed totem II, 2021, linocut, collage

Dimensions: 56 cm x 93 cm

Using collage to compose the work, I have appropriated images from historical natural history books and other historical sources, to create a narrative image of the unfolding journey of the seed, from pollination, through to germination, through to the production of blooms, and back to seed. These prints seek to highlight the importance of the insect and bird pollinators and their essential contribution to seed production: many pollinators are in serious decline due to many environmental pressures, including human encroachment into their habitats and the indiscriminate use of pesticides.
