COLLAGRAPH WORKSHOP
with Helen Daley
10am - 4pm | Saturday 8 + Sunday 9 March 2025
Collagraph is a print technique which uses mount board to create a surface to hold ink, which is then pressed into the paper using a high pressure printing press. The printing process and image quality is similar to that of etching but the plate is created without the use of acid, making it perfect for those who want to learn intaglio techniques that can also be done at home!
In this introductory collagraph workshop local artist Helen Daley will demonstrate how to create an image either by drawing into the mount board with a knife, by tearing it, or by cutting it apart. You will then learn how to seal your plate to prepare it for inking and printing. Through the inking process you will explore the use of colour as well as techniques such as jig-sawing and layering the plates.
About the tutor
Helen Daley’s works are emotional narratives about her personal experience of place. She uses maps, quilts, colours, figures and landscapes to communicate these emotions. Each print is unique and varied, as Helen intuitively mixes colours and paints onto the plates, shifting colours for each print. Working primarily in Collagraph Helen started printmaking at COFA UNSW where she completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours in 2010. Helen now lives and works from her home studio in Gundaroo on Ngunnawal land.
