STONE LITHOGRAPHY

with John Hart
10am - 4pm | Saturday 29 + Sunday 30 March 2025

Join artist John Hart as he introduces you to the fascinating process of Stone Lithography - a medium that invites a range of drawing styles, from detailed illustration to spontaneous mark-making.

Lithography is based on the principle that grease and water don’t mix - You create an image on the surface of a limestone slab using greasy drawing materials in the form of crayon, pencil, or a liquid called tusche. When the stone is ready for printing, the surface is dampened so it can be inked in greasy litho ink, then printed.

In this class you will learn how to develop images on your stone, process them with gum arabic and acid, then print your lithographs on Megalo’s lithography presses.

Suitability: Beginners or those wishing to refresh their skills.
Materials: Please bring a drawing, photo, or other ideas for your image. All other materials provided.
